The virtual location is a specialized inventory location added to your Shopify store to prevent overselling. It is set up to ensure no orders are ever fulfilled directly from this location.
This feature is used for managing pre-order items and in-stock items held back as part of a pre-order. Here’s how it works:
When a pre-order is placed, the available quantity in the Purple Dot Virtual Location is reduced by one (-1):
This adjustment ensures the product does not appear in stock before the pre-order is exported to Shopify.
Once the stock arrives in Shopify, we increase the available quantity in the virtual location by one (+1) and export the order.
The now exported order shows up as expected in your warehouse location:
The virtual location functions the same way for in-stock items that are held back to be shipped with pre-orders. We ensure inventory is reserved for any required in-stock items.
